I tried to make New Years Eve fun for the kids this year, so we changed a couple of our clocks ahead 3 hours... resulting in our midnight countdown arriving at 9pm. :) Nine o'clock is still rather late for our girls, so they felt like it was quite the special evening - We filled a time capsule with silly information about each of us and added some little random treasures inside... then we buried it in the backyard, with plans to dig it up in 2011! By the way, can you believe it's 2010?!! Where is my hover car? Weren't we supposed to have those by now? Seriously - I'm disappointed! Anyway, we rang in the New Year with
Trader Joe's appetizers and sparkling cider, the kids banged pots outside (at 9pm mind you), threw balloons around, and we topped off the night by smashing
confetti eggs on each other's heads. Definitely memorable!
Who's that weird guy peeking behind the table?
Using this idea gave me a jump start on undecorating my Christmas tree ;)
Happy 2010!
You have the cutest idea! (And setting your clocks ahead? Brilliant!)
ReplyDeleteAaron and I stopped at World Market to refresh my mind on what in the world is at the World Market. They do have some unique licorice product!
ReplyDeleteI particularly like the picture of Ben peeking over the table.
ReplyDeleteHow nice that you've got your Christmas decor down. I'm going to take the ornaments off of my tree in the morning. Usually, un-decorating and getting the tree down takes me at least two days. It's such a big project.
Your brother got his new car, look at my blog.
sounds so fun and I love the 9:00 idea. The egg confetti sound way cool top, where do you get those?
ReplyDeletevalerie- you make the confetti eggs by cracking open a large hole in the top and cleaning them out and letting them dry... then fill then part way with confetti (or hole punch your own!) and then close the hole by covering it with some tissue paper and gluing it to secure... you can see pics and more instructions by clicking on the link in the post. they were pretty easy and really amusing!
ReplyDeleteFun! what a great idea! we had a big blow out party, that ended at 8:30 when we all crashed and went to bed. . . we should have banged pots or something, maybe next year.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea to get your kids involved in some New Years' fun. I may have to steal your ideas next year. Too cute.
ReplyDeleteoh Susan! I just love this NEW YEARS tradition. I need to compile a book of fun traditions.
