This is what happens when Jake eats a sucker while at the park...

In other news... the new job system continues to be a success! Yay! Doesn't every mother just LOVE to see this happen around the house?....

Thankfully, for now, they are VERY happily participating in this whole help mommy clean the house thing. I have high hopes for when they get older! Other jobs that both girls are successfully doing (for those interested in job ideas for kids): emptying the small bathroom trashcans, helping with dinner, clearing dinner dishes off the table, weeding (awesome!!... although I'm pretty sure half of the weeds they pull aren't getting the roots, but I'll still take it!), making their beds (Becca can't really do it, but Emma is a dream!), setting the table, helping put groceries away, writing a letter to Grandma (or other extended family member) on Sunday (Emma writes, Becca draws a picture), dusting, picking up their bedroom, and taking dirty clothes to the laundry room. They also get points each day for brushing their teeth, getting dressed, and taking a bath. And Emma gets extra points for helping her sister during the day and reading a book on her reading level. Great right?! I'm pretty thrilled to be having the kids helping... not that it's really 'helping' just yet, but I feel good to finally be spending time each day teaching them how to help and how to clean. It makes me happy. Here's to actually keeping it up! And if anyone has any other good ideas for chores that little ones can do, let me know. :)
The favorite job at our house is putting the thrown off couch cushions back on prettily. We do it at least 5 times a day :) Taking clothes out of the dryer and putting them in peoples rooms/ their own away in their drawer is another biggie. Bringing in groceries etc. from the car. Washing windows (not overly effective but they enjoy.) It's true it's more work for us but it does feel good doesn't it and sometimes they surprise me with what they can do.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great ideas Tessa! I like the unloading the dryer, and helping sort clothes job... good one... and washing windows would be interesting to give them a chance with. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty pinata. I bet the kids loved that.
ReplyDeleteThe sandy sucker didn't look to good. I guess that's how kids learn though.
The girls look so grown up when they are helping.
For their own sakes (as much as yours), keep requiring them to help.
My parents raised 7 kids. I still remember the chore wheel in the kitchen. Often, while other kids were playing we were working. I never thought that someday I would be grateful for the teachings.
Because of all that I have a strong work ethic and I also take a tidy home seriously.
Tell the girls that grandma is proud of them when they help their mother.
Susan, you rock. Plain and simple. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI wish job charts worked at my house! I just decided to throw out any sort of job charts, expectations, and um, anything that any good parent does. And now I have a list of children's books that teach morals. I am going to read one to Michael every day, talk about it, and maybe like Joseph Smith, if I teach the principles he will just start to govern himself.... ha ha ha ha ha . . . I am still laughing, but at least right now I am laughing and not crying, RIGHT!?! I am happy that it is working. So far for Kendell, she just likes to help, I don't have to bribe her.
ReplyDeleteInspirational! Ha! Ill have to ask you all about your points system tomorrow. I love all your posts Susan! They help me get going with things I want to do! You're the cutest cutiemama!
