A Saturday Outing

Saturdays are usually filled with impromptu outings as a family. This past Saturday, we decided to go to Cabelas to look at fishing equipment. Does anyone else think that place is a little strange? It's part store, part museum, part aquarium, part amusement park, or something.... it has a bit of an identity crisis I guess. Well, whatever it is, the kids enjoyed it, so I'm not complaining. :)

After our Cabelas adventure, we headed across the street to Westgate and ate lunch at Johnny Rockets. I've never eaten there before... I liked the premise of the place with the 50's diner feel, but the music was so loud! But I liked the food... I'm pretty easy to please with food, really... I'm a sucker for any hamburger with bacon and onion rings on it! Who isn't?! So, they have a fun splash park at Westgate, but that morning I had intentionally passed on bringing along swim suits because at the time it was raining a bit, so I didn't think the kids would be playing in the fountains. Well, it cleared up and was sunny and warm by the time we left Cabelas. After lunch, we couldn't pass up on the fun splash park, with or without swimsuits... so we shooed the kids into the water in their street clothes. The girls enjoyed themselves, but Jake got so mad! He was fine at first, but once he soaked himself, I'm sure he was feeling pretty uncomfortable in his wet clothes.... sorry Jake! Probably should have just stripped him down to his diaper to begin with. :)

Me with my grumpy Jake

Since I don't want to end a post without a good Jake grin, here's a pic I took today...

Is it just me, or does he totally look like he could pass for a THREE year old in this picture? He's so big and handsome!

  1. We like Cabellas. I think the aquarium and stuffed animals etc.. are intended to get you in the outdoor mood and spending money there.
Splash parks seem to be very popular in Arizona. It's no wonder with the extreme heat you deal with. We have a new splash pad at our nearby sports center now. We'll take the kids there, since they like that sort of thing so much.
When Jake grows up the girls are going to be chasing him (get ready).
Today I baked bread and applesauce brownies with Splenda. I did some house work and then some yard work. It was so cloudy this morning, but the day improved.

  2. My sis worked at JR's all through high school/college. Simple but tasty, right? Jake does look like a little man:)

  3. Its good to see Cabellas has a home in AZ. It is a quirky place, one that your mother enjoys and besides they carry a full compliment of pink fishing gear .

I was curious does your store have an animatronic hunter in the big game museum that speaks of the big hunt like the one at the Lehi store?

  4. haha! yes, dad - they DO have an animatronic hunter that talks... it automatically starts talking and moving when you get close... it SERIOUSLY freaked me out, because I didn't realize it was there and I thought a real man had jumped out from behind an animal or something!
