We've been traveling over the past 3 weeks, and been able to visit San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, Utah, New York City, and Flagstaff. We had an amazing time and things went very smoothly, especially considering we drove a total of 2500 miles in our van with 4 kids. Thankfully, we did not drive to New York - Ben and I got to fly without our kids for that leg of the trip. There were a few illnesses during our travels, but nothing that really put a damper in our outings. I am so overwhelmed by all the pictures I took, that I'll split things up quite a bit so I can finish blog posts a little at a time... To start, San Francisco! This was partially a work trip, as Ben was presenting research at a conference. We stayed a couple of days longer than the work portion, so that we would have more time to explore and play as a family. We drove all day from Phoenix, so it was rather late by the time we checked in and settled ourselves at the hotel. It seemed like the perfect time for a room service dinner...
The first few nights we stayed at the Westin St Francis in Union Square. It was so beautiful and unique, inside and out.
I'm pretty sure this hallway looks haunted... haha...
The next morning after arriving, we found some breakfast at a nearby Starbucks (we walked everywhere from the hotel to get our meals... downtown San Francisco is so fun!) and then explored the Union Square open area across the street from the hotel...
After Ben spent some time that morning at his conference, we drove to Muir Woods - we crossed the Golden Gate bridge for the first time and were welcomed by the routine San Francisco fog...
Muir Woods was higher in elevation and thankfully we escaped the fog and made a quick pit stop at a road side stand for cherries and toffee almonds...
Waiting for daddy to finish roadside shopping...
Muir Woods was amazing. The redwood trees were beautiful. The kids loved getting the chance to RUN the boardwalks and pathways and enjoying the scenery...
Clamoring over lunch outside the cafe. We enjoyed their famous grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup (featured on Food Network's "The Best Thing I Ever Ate")
After exploring the woods, we drove to the nearby beach. The foggy rocky shore was so picturesque... the kids loved exploring the rocks and getting their feet wet...
Next up... Golden Gate Park and Chinatown

I haven't been to the San Francisco area in years. We took you to Muir Woods when you were small. It is one of my favorite places.
ReplyDeleteThe beaches there are so wild and interesting.
I'm glad you got a couple of videos.
