Small but good things...

Emma had Pajama Day at school on Friday. It's an understatement to say that she was VERY excited to get to wear her footy pj's to school... she talked about it all week leading up to it.

Friday was also a day off of work for Ben this week, so we enjoyed the day by running errands together and getting a few small home projects checked off our list. We've been talking about planting some sort of citrus tree in the backyard for a while, so we made a stop at a local nursery to look around. It had some awesome desert plants and beautiful flowers and fountains all over. It was a fun place to explore.

It did have lots of great citrus trees, but they were all quite mature already and thus 100-250 dollars each. So, we enacted plan B... go to Costco! They were selling very small lemon, orange, and grapefruit trees for 20 dollars. We have NO idea when our lemon tree will actually start producing fruit... maybe we will never see the day while living in this house. Any ideas on the matter would be most appreciated. In any case, it will be a good experiment to see if we can care for the tree properly and not kill it, for one... and maybe even see the little thing grow. That would be exciting and a good learning experience for us! Even though we've hardly done anything yet (other than plant it and make sure it should get enough watering), I'm quite proud of our little tree...

On our errands, we also visited the newly opened Hobby Lobby store that's so much closer to our neck of the woods... what a fun store it is! While there we got some fabric to add a little much needed life into our antique chairs and also some curtain hooks. The girls get their grimy fingers all over the curtains every time they open the door to head outside... now they can be held back and out of the way during the day.

Ben's days off are often followed by a 30 hour shift at the hospital... bummer. But the weather was very lovely today, so we tried to stay happy even though our daddy was gone and headed to the park!

Another fun thing to do when Ben is gone at the hospital is go visit him! We met up with him when his work load slowed and ate dinner (and dessert!) with him there. We've done this several times during his intern year so far and it's fun to see him on his 'home turf' and take advantage of his generous food stipend. ;)

hmmm... that goofy Emma face may be a result of her trying to smile with a mouth-ful of cake

These kids LOVE their daddy (and I love him too)...

  1. Looks like a fun weekend! Good luck with the lemon tree. They just need LOTS of water! :) We're trying to not kill the trees we planted last summer too. It's touch and go sometimes, but I think we're winning the battle.

  2. I grew up in sunny California. Our Long Beach house had lemon, orange and Avacado trees. They produced a large amount of fruit some years.
It's something to see how abundantly the plants are growing at your local nursery. Our nursery still has everything indoors and we just had another big snowfall.
The weather is very changeable right now. Some days theres not a hint of snow in the valley with a lot of sunshine. Slowly we will make it to Spring. Your grandpa is happy when it snows, because even at age 82 he downhill skis from an elevation of 10,000 feet (He's amazing).
I expect we will have no trouble finding a spot to go sledding with the kids when you come up.
Ben looks very professional in his white coat and the girls are clearly thrilled to see him. It's nice that you can go share a meal with him at the hospital. I would have been really into that chocolate cake.
I have to teach my class today, but I'm coming home early. I've lost half of my voice. I sound far worse than I feel though.
I'm doing all that I can to keep my cooties away from your dad, so his trip down to Phoenix isn't messed up. Wouldn't that be a disaster! We just won't let that happen.

  3. Girl, I love how you embrace and make the best out of a 30 hour shift ( daddy's gone). The girls looked so happy eating cake with their Dad.

Love the new HObby Lobby and love that it is so close. I love the chair fabric. Great choice!
